Through the years that passed, this structure has had a number of purposes such as for municipal grain warehouse, warehouse for weapons, jail, school of commerce and temporary city hall. When it was turned into a museum, it had been a storeroom for fantastic collected works of the 20th century, which were generously given by Eusebio Sempre, an artist in Alicante, in 1976. This museum is the place where various works of Dali, Gris, Chillida, Miro, Tapies, Mompo, Zobel and Picasso are stored and taken care of.
Located in Plaza de Santa Maria, this museum that was once a municipal house is within close proximity to the church of Santa Maria. Also near this museum are some cozy and warm hotels wherein you can stay while you are in the city and a number of fantastic restaurants wherein you can enjoy delightful and delicious dishes and cuisines. It is also near to some tourist attractions within the city such as the San Nicolas de Bari Procathedral and the Santa Barbara Castle, which are both of cultural value. This beautiful museum is certainly worth visiting and is one of the best tourist destinations that you can find in the wonderful city of Alicante.
