New Desktop Security Software On The Block
The competition is getting stiffer with the new kids on the block. That is, desktop security software kids, with pretty good security features. These relatively new brands are Bit Defender and Panda Antivirus. Strictly speaking, they have been around for a few years, but it has only been recently when it started coming under the radar for excellence in security.
Bit Defender has been compared to Kaspersky over and over again. There are similarities, and the overall result of delivering a virus-free, malware-free computer is practically dead even. However, Bit Defender is cheaper at $54, while Kaspersky costs $70. On the other hand, Kaspersky has been around for quite a bit, and has attained a very good reputation over the years.
Panda Antivirus has been very active in improving its security package, and it has been getting the attention it deserves. It works on virus detection both imbedded in the system or viruses wanting to get into the computer system. It retails for a very reasonable price of $34 for the complete version.
The other options you have if you want to have a wider selection are the AVG and Avast. Both of these security software have free downloads for their basic security package. This is very appealing to those who would rather not spend on computer security.
Since most of the security programs mentioned above are not very effective as an antispyware, you might want to consider getting one separately. Some of the good antispyware applications you should consider is the Spy Sweeper, a Firewall, or the Ad-Aware. Any of these will do the job of stopping spyware on its tracks and keeping it away from your computer system. The price range for these applications are within the $54 to $60 tags. If you don’t want to spend on an antispyware, you could try the free download of Ad-Aware.
