Choosing Teak Sideboard Furniture
Teak wood is what a teak sideboard is made from. This type of wood is tropical and it is hardwood. Teak wood bearing trees can grow up to be as tall as 131 feet. The name teak came from South India.
Teak wood has a wealthy look about it. Its original color is similar to that of honey. This color can begin to lighten and it can turn to a color that gives it a look of being ancient. This lightening of color in no way causes this furniture to become weak or brittle. It simply means that it will look older. There is a great way to care for the teak sideboard so that it keeps it youthful, like brand new look forever.
There are a few products on the market for caring for this lavish piece of furniture. This product is usually called a teak protector. It is highly recommended for a person to purchase a product that does not contain oils that say they are “teak”. This will not preserve the color of the teak sideboard or any other furniture made from this type of wood.
The teak protectors will have to be applied more than once, over periods of time. All products will have general instructions on the containers, as well as information meant to help protect consumers.
It is not recommended to leave teak sideboard furniture outside, as it can turn to a dingy looking gray color, even if it has been protected with a teak preserving product. If a person wishes to display this outside, or use this outside, they can put a clear, thin plastic cover on it to help protect it from weather. The sun might cause the natural colors to change, though.
A teak sideboard is very easy to maintain and keep clean. The cleaning can be done with a mild detergent, such as ivory snow, but must be diluted with water. It should be diluted at least 2/3 water and only 1/3 soap, maybe even less than 1/3 of soap. Not much soap is needed to wash this furniture. Using a soft cloth (non-abrasive) is also recommended for cleaning this type of wood.
