When you have been asked to attend a function that requires the use of semi formal dresses there are some items that you want to consider. Make sure that you find out what the colors and themes are of the function that you are attending. This will help making the decision much easier when find the right dresses to be worn to the function.

Check the function that you are attending to make sure that the semi formal dresses being bought are going to go with the theme. Also make sure that the dresses you are looking at to purchase will go well with the time of the year that you are attending the function of. This means that if you are looking to attend a formal function during the spring that you purchase a dress that is going to be worn with a semi formal shawl or jacket to go over the dress to keep your arms and shoulders warm when walking to and from the car as well as times when you are going to be outside.

When choosing a semi formal evening dress to wear to functions such as proms and homecomings there will be some guidelines that the school might require that you follow where as when you are looking to purchase these dresses for a wedding, you are not going to be so strict on the type of semi formal dresses you will be able to purchase. Some of these dresses are a little more provocative than others and this is where the schools are going to say that you are not allowed to wear to these functions such as when you are attending school, you are usually sticking to a code and this will be flowed over to the functions that the school has as well. Where as a wedding, you might be able to get away with much more than you would at school.
