Looking for a gift to give someone close to you for a special occasion that will provide a symbol of how much they mean to you? In that case you need to take a look at the promise ring, which has been used for that purpose for centuries. Through the ages they have been given by men to the women they love, but these days it’s not uncommon for ladies to also give, to their future husbands, mens promise rings and they can also be exchanged between partners as a sort of pre-engagement ring when a marriage is planned at some point in the future, but which they are not quite ready for. Perhaps they are being forced to live in separate parts of the country for a while due to work, or maybe they don’t quite have the money available to pay for a wedding just now.

A promise rings set signifies their intention to get married in the future even if they aren’t quite ready to announce their engagement. This is certainly not the only use for a promise ring. They can be given as a special anniversary gift when a couple have been married for a certain amount of years. They can be given to your best friend to show how much they mean to you, someone who life wouldn’t be the same without. It’s a promise that you will always be there for them when they need you.

A promise ring can also be used as a promise that you will behave in a certain manner, such as with the chastity ring often given to a child by a parent. This has the unfortunate meaning of the receiver of the ring being made to promise to act in a manner that is considered “proper” by the giver and is not in the spirit of a promise ring in my opinion. Better to give a gift with love and a promise that you will act in a certain way than to bribe someone else to act as you dictate.
