Personally, I find it hard to believe the numbers I see from the government regarding unemployment numbers.  If I look at my local newspapers, I see legitimate job opportunities for those who are willing to take the work.  I think there should be a differentiation for the work you’re willing to take and work you’re not willing to take.

For instance, whenever I look at classified section of my daily newspaper, I always see wanted ads for house cleaners.  Sure, it might not be an ideal job that we were trained for, but it is a way to make ends meet for the time being.  And, if you want to think long term, the experience, connections and networking done can be invaluable to setting up your own housekeeping business in the future.  People need to learn that life is a series of stepping stones and we come out of it for the better if we channel what we have learned into something for the better.

In the case of house cleaning, did you know that the cleaning industry generates billions of dollars in profits each year even in an economic recession?  It is quite laughable that while others are busting their chops in multiple jobs, they are looking for house cleaners because they’ve neglected their household duties. Household cleaning is a necessity in some ways because people cannot abide by a dirty house.  However, because housework literally is a chore, they would rather someone else do the dirty work.  Frankly, if you are in the house cleaning business, you’re thrilled to have new customers because they often turn into repeat customers as well.  Once people get used to someone doing their house cleaning, it is something they are unwilling to for themselves again.

So, even though you might have faced a setback being laid off in your job and you’re staring in the classifieds with help wanted ads regarding house cleaning, give it a go.  At worst it is a temporary solution and if you make the most of it, you can turn it into a business.
