Uncovering Entry Level Positions in Accounting
Sometimes it can be quite challenging to get your career going in accounting. First, you have to decide which route to go. There are basically three options when trying to land those entry level accountant jobs.
1. Public Accounting – The advantages of starting your career in public accounting is that you will gain a wide range of experience quickly. While accounting has its standards that all industries have to adhere to, there is still many nuances to learn in different industries. Being exposed to these nuances will make you a valuable commodity to many future employers. The downside is that you will have to be comfortable with lots of work hours and possible travel. Not much room for a family life.

2. Corporate Accounting – You can stand your career as a Staff Accountant for a company. The pay may not be as grand as public accounting to start but you will not have the heavy work volume. Just be sure that the role is well-rounded and not pigeon-holed into one accounting function.
3. Internal Auditing – This may be the most difficult of the three to get into from the start. Sometimes companies want you to have a few years under your belt. Still there are companies looking to hire people that can monitor the company’s accuracy in reporting financial matters as well as assistance in uncovering potential problem areas.
Regardless of the route that you choose, you will still need to design the perfect resume to get a chance at the opportunity. Don’t overlook how valuable your resume is to your success. Always remember that it is important to target your resume for each position that you apply for. Companies want to hire specialists and you need to display that to them instead of just having a general resume. This will help you to gain more interviews and land your ideal job in accounting.
